ABOUT ME
My name is Mitch van den Akker, a 23 year old passionate media fanatic. My interest lay very broad in the industry, although I’m graduated as Audio visual designer at the Sintlucas, I’m greatly interested in anything else media has to offer from Websites, App’s, Photography, Video’s, Animation, Design and much more! As I’ve a passion for most media types, I’ve taught myself various things that school couldn’t/didn’t offer me to get a broad knowledge of everything that is out there. Hence the reason I’ve started my new education as Media entertainment manager at the NHTV.
I’ve many great Ideas set out for the future, and set my future goals in starting my own enterprise in the advertising/production industry in which I will combine my skills for production, marketing and concept.
But as of right now my goals are fixed on school, in which I’m searching for a new Internship place for me to expand my skills in the period of September-January 2017-2018.
Down below you’ll find information about the education and internships I’ve followed the past few years. (Click to open)
After all my experiences, jobs and internships I’ve came to the conclusion that I wanted something more. I wanted to go higher up, and not focus on video alone, but focus on a broader industry. That was the main reason I decided to follow a bachelor education on the NHTV in Breda – International Media entertainment management. Which is a course completely given in English. As I’ve always had the intentions and dreams of working and living abroad, international and see the world, this school seemed perfect. Right now I’m in the second year and so far it haven’t disappointed me. Looking forward, there is one internship, one exchange and one minor ahead of me before graduating, which I’m all looking forward to. So far the course gave me a clear insight of what I wanted to become, and as my interests on the media field are so broad, this course gives me exactly that. The basis of Production, Marketing and Concept, which will be the solid base of advertising/production company I’ve been planning to start when I’m done.
Right after my Internship at Towelmedia in Amsterdam, I’ve got myself an internship at a smaller company located in Eindhoven, called IFQ media. This small production company just started out, and there were very few AV employees. This meant that a lot of responsibility’s were given to me as an intern, which taught and showed me new information about the industry. The company did a lot of Aftermovies from festivals, events and DJ’s. I’ve done most of the editing for those productions and sometimes could join in the weekends to film on parties. What I learned the most here was because of the repetition and responsibilities on the editing, I created various efficient and effective workflows for myself that I still use today.
Towelmedia was a jump into the depth, as this major production company with only 15 man personal at that time, which was responsible for big named shows on Dutch TV networks. As Intern, you got dipped right into the hearth of video production as there was lots of freedom and opportunities to either specialize in the animation/video or editing aspects. What I’ve done the most here was animation, as I was least skilled in this when I started this internship, but that soon changed as I had to work on huge TV productions. Aside of the animations I’ve done various editing and filming productions and learned to start working on real big studio recordings. All with all this Internship gave me the very first realistic insight in the actual media industry and its habits of late and flexible hours.
In my first year at Sintlucas, I’ve been studying game design, which unfortunately didn’t turned out to be the right decision. This year was no misfortune as the actual designing got me into Audio visual design that was also located at the Sintlucas. Within the Audio visual design course we’ve been taught about all aspects of Video and animation, such as the technical and the creative design aspects of the craft. In the third and fourth year I’ve been doing internships of 5 months in companies which are described above.
